Improving the Quality of Dairy Farming in Indonesia, Cimory launches a Program for 1,000 Gallant Indonesian Women Farmers 20 Dec 2021
Jakarta, 14 December 2021 – PT Cisarua Mountain Dairy Tbk through its Cimory products synergizes with dairy farming cooperatives and livestock groups to cultivate the dairy farming industry in Indonesia to become a more inclusive, productive and sustainable industry whilst being mindful towards public health and the environment. In an effort to encourage a progressive dairy farming industry, Cimory has jointly collaborated with Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Chamberlain Veterinary Services (CVS) Australia to develop and launch a community development program called Training for Women Farmers in Indonesia.
Women play a pivotal role in the economy. Women should be empowered to contribute generously in improving the wealth of the family, village and nation. By providing women with the necessary opportunities and skills in dairy farming, Cimory believes that female farmers have the ability to improve milk productivity and quality in Indonesia. This is in line with the government's commitment to promote gender equality and to improve the skills and opportunities for women, including female farmers in Indonesia.
Through this collaboration program, Cimory has invited 1,000 female farmers from West Java to learn and develop skills in dairy farming by educating them on best practices, financial literacy and the use of the internet in accordance with the current digitalisation era. This program was inaugurated in the opening ceremony entitled "Program 1,000 Heroines of Indonesian Farmers" at Cimory Riverside, Bogor on Tuesday (14/12). Present at the event, was the President Commissioner of PT Cisarua Mountain Dairy Tbk, Mr. Bambang Sutantio and representatives of the management of several dairy farming cooperatives under the guidance of Cimory, KUD Giri Tani, KPS Cianjur Utara, KUD Gemah Ripah, KPSP Saluyu, KTT Kurnia Rahayu and KUD Bayongbong.
“Through this program, female farmers will attend a 3-day training workshop to learn about Good Dairy Farming Practices (GDFP) which includes: Feed Management, Lactation Period, Calf Management, Livestock Health, Livestock Reproduction and Milk Quality. Moreover, they will also gain additional knowledge on Financial Literacy, Entrepreneurship and Digital Literacy which will certainly be very useful for them to grow their dairy cattle business,” said Mr Bambang Sutantio.
Divided into 6 locations namely Cisarua, Cianjur, Sukabumi, Kuningan, Lembang and Garut, this training program will be carried out in 40 sessions across 16 months, and has already commenced from November 2021 and will conclude in December 2022. Participants who can partake in this training include female farmers, wife or daughter of a farmer. This initiative by Cimory promotes the role of Indonesian women in advancing their livelihood, health, education and eventually the economy of Indonesia.
Mr Bunyamin as chairman of KUD Giri Tani said the target of increasing milk consumption needs to be accompanied by an increase in domestic fresh milk production (SSDN). Therefore, it is necessary for farmers to understand how to produce high quality milk and dairy products so that people have the confidence in these products and realise the benefits for their health. In line with this, farmers also need to increase their knowledge of digital literacy in order to access websites, applications and videos to gain knowledge from wider information sources relating to the latest developments in the dairy business and to expand their business opportunities in the dairy sector.
“Women also do play an important role in developing the economy in rural areas, but unfortunately, women's involvement is still not fully optimized. This program is expected to open up potentials for increasing the capacity and capability of female farmers to be able to contribute more in advancing the dairy industry in Indonesia, especially in improving the village economy,” added Vyta Wahyu Hanifah as National Dairy Extension Expert representative from CVS. "We hope that through this training program, female farmers can continue to play an active role by increasing the skills and profits of the livestock business in Indonesia, especially in West Java. The program does not only revolve around the quality of cows and milk produced, but also the ability to manage the environmental footprint of livestock through effective waste management so that consumers have the confidence that the dairy industry cares about the environment by utilizing resources efficiently,” concluded the Trainer and Facilitator.
